Brief History

Sayyidina Imam Ahmad al-Muhajir (grandfather of Alawi) was born in Basra, Iraq 260H. He was a distinguished noble, scholar, God fearing, head of the descendents of the Prophet S.A.W. in Iraq and a very rich noble possessing acres of farms and real estate in Basra, Iraq. He was the first to migrate to the blessed land; Hadhramaut, and was knighted as al-Muhajir, meaning; the emigrant.

Imam Ahmad al-Muhajir decided to migrate to Hadhramaut in 320H together with his son Ubaydillah, his grandson Basri bin
Ubaydillah, his uncle relatives from Bani al-Ahdal and Bani Qadym and friends and relatives amounting to 73 people. Imam Ahmad
al-Muhajir eventually settled in a town called Hasys, Yemen and spent the rest of his life until he died in 345H at the age of 85.

The reason of his migration from Basra, giving up his leadership, wealth and affluence to settled in a very remote undeveloped country; Hadhramaut was the immerging of various extreme and fanatic groups and sects who were insulting the Khulafa' Rashidin (eg. Abu Bakr al-Siddiq, Umar al-Faruq, Uthman ibn Affan, Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib), Talhah, Zubyr, Ummul mu'minin Aishah, Muawiyah and other companions, may Allah be pleased with them. It was during this period of civil strife that the killings of Sufi scholars also took place, such as Husayn ibn Mansur al-Hallaj who were murdered in cold blood. Imam Ahmad al-Muhajir was aware that his offsprings and family members might be influenced with these innovations and fanatic ideas and might even possibly recieved physical harm if he did'nt do anything about it. Thus he decided to migrate with his entire family except one of his son Muhammad to look after his properties. Imam Ahmad al-Muhajir was convinced that Hadhramaut was the best venue, uninfluenced from outside innovations.

After settling in Hadhramaut, within a very short period of time, Imam Ahmad al-Muhajir succeeded in establishing the pure aqidah of Ahl al-Sunnah wa al-Jama'ah throughout the region. Imam Ahmad al-Muhajir had 3 grandsons from his noble son Ubaydillah, namely; Basri, Jadid and Alawi. His grandson Alawi, was the first Sayyid to be born in Hadhramaut, and the only one amongst his noble grandsons to produce a continued lineage, as Basri and Jadid's lineage were cut off after several generations. Hence;
º Ba'Alawi, Sadah of Hadhramaut º

The Ba'Alawi Sadah have since been living in Hadhramaut until only recently around 300-400years ago that they began to
migrate in huge numbers out of Hadhramaut across all over the globe, often to practice da'wah (Islamic missionary efforts).

Masha'a Allah. Allahu Akbar. Peace and blessings be upon them.
